NEWBERN- Five straight regional championships. Six consecutive district titles. And another opportunity to reach the state tournament. Dyer County volleyball continued its remarkable run of postseason success Tuesday night, sweeping district rival Crockett County in straight sets to capture the program's fifth consecutive Region 7AA Championship and earn the right to host a TSSAA Class AA State Sectional match Thursday night. The Choctaws defeated the Cavaliers 25-14, 25-20, 25-21, completing a 3-0 victory and adding another championship to a program that has established itself as one of the most successful in West Tennessee. The regional championship came just five days after Dyer County defeated Crockett County in the District 13AA Tournament championship match, giving the Choctaws two postseason victories over their district rival in less than a week. Dyer County opened Tuesday's championship match with a convincing 25-14 victory in the first set. Crockett County provided a stronger challenge in the second, but the Choctaws held on for a 25-20 win to take a commanding two-set advantage. The Cavaliers continued to battle in the third set, but Dyer County closed out the match with a 25-21 victory to secure another regional championship. At the service line, Dyer County recorded 73 service attempts, finishing with four aces and seven service errors. Zoey Morris and Kierstyn Ray each contributed two aces to lead the Choctaws. The championship capped off an impressive two-day regional tournament for Dyer County, which opened play Monday with a dominant 3-0 sweep of Bolivar. In that match, the Choctaws won 25-8, 25-11 and 25-9 while recording 20 service aces. Dyer County has now won four consecutive postseason matches without dropping a set, sweeping Dyersburg and Crockett County in the District 13AA Tournament before defeating Bolivar and Crockett County in regional competition. Now, the Choctaws find themselves one victory away from returning to the state's biggest stage for a sixth consecutive season. The regional championship also ensures Dyer County will have the opportunity to play its sectional match in front of the home crowd, giving the Choctaws a chance to continue their postseason run on their home floor. Dyer County will host the TSSAA Class AA State Sectional on Thursday, October 15, against the winner of the Covington-Millington matchup. The winner will advance to the TSSAA Class AA State Tournament.
