SEVIERVILLE —Dyer County boys golf capped off another outstanding season with a fifth-place finish at the 2026 TSSAA Class A State Golf Championship, highlighted by a State Runner-Up performance from junior Jarrett Harrison. The two-day tournament, held October 5-6 at the Sevierville Golf Club's River Course, brought together eight qualifying teams from across Tennessee to compete for the Class A state championship. Dyer County opened the tournament Monday with a team score of 308 before adding a 312 on Tuesday, finishing with a two-day total of 620 strokes to place fifth overall in the state. Signal Mountain captured the state championship with a two-day total of 600, followed by Liberty Creek (609), Greeneville (614) and Macon County (617). Dyer County rounded out the top five, finishing ahead of Summertown (622), Anderson County (623) and McKenzie (630). Harrison led the way for the Choctaws, finishing tied for second individually in the state with a two-day score of 146, just two strokes behind the individual state champion. Harrison opened the tournament Monday with a one-under-par 71, putting himself in a tie for the individual lead heading into the final round. He followed with a three-over-par 75 on Tuesday to finish at two-over-par for the championship. Signal Mountain's Tucker Cruise claimed the individual state title with an even-par 144, while Harrison shared runner-up honors with McKenzie's Ethan Bradberry, who also finished at 146. The runner-up finish represented a significant accomplishment for Harrison, who improved upon his tie for 14th at last year's state championship. His performance also continued an impressive postseason run after claiming the Region 8A individual championship to qualify for the state tournament with his teammates. Sophomore Beau Thurmon also delivered an impressive performance, finishing tied for 12th individually in the state. Thurman opened with a 77 on Monday before improving three strokes with a 74 on Tuesday, finishing with a two-day total of 151, seven-over-par. Sophomore Miller Williams provided another solid performance for Dyer County, shooting rounds of 78 and 79 to finish tied for 35th with a 157. Sophomore Jamison Rhodes recorded an opening-round 82 before finishing with an 84 on Tuesday, placing 53rd overall with a two-day total of 166. Freshman Grady Patterson gained valuable state tournament experience, posting rounds of 89 and 90 to finish with a 179, placing 62nd. The Choctaws' fifth-place finish marked another successful trip to the state championship after finishing as Class A State Runners-Up in 2025. Dyer County entered this year's state tournament after capturing the Region 8A Championship in Memphis, continuing a strong tradition of postseason success for the program. With a roster featuring one junior, three sophomores and two freshmen among its state championship participants, the Choctaws gained valuable experience competing against Tennessee's best. Harrison's individual State Runner-Up finish, Thurmon's top-15 performance and the team's fifth-place showing provided a strong conclusion to another successful season for Dyer County golf, while also offering plenty of optimism for the future of the program.
