NEWBERN —Dyer County football closed out its home schedule in memorable fashion on Thursday, October 1, rallying in the fourth quarter to defeat Chester County 20-15 on Senior Night. The victory provided a fitting sendoff for the Choctaw seniors, who took the field at Dyer County High School for the final home game of their high school careers. The win improved Dyer County's record to 3-4 heading into its scheduled open week. Chester County struck first with a 29-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to take a 7-0 lead. The extra-point attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the Choctaws trailing 7-6 at halftime. The Eagles extended their advantage to 9-6 in the third quarter when Dyer County surrendered a safety, setting the stage for a dramatic final period. Quarterback Clark Ross connected with Landon Kuykendoll on a 50-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, and Dillon Rogers added the extra point to give the Choctaws their first lead of the night at 13-9. Chester County responded with a two-yard touchdown run to reclaim the lead at 15-13 after a missed extra point. With the game hanging in the balance, Barbee delivered again, racing 33 yards for his second touchdown of the night. Beyond the final score, the evening carried special significance as Dyer County recognized its senior football players and celebrated their contributions to the program. For those seniors, the comeback victory served as a memorable conclusion to their time playing in front of the home crowd. After enjoying an open week this past Friday, the Choctaws will now turn their attention to the remaining road games on their regular-season schedule. While Dyer County's season continues, the October 1 victory ensured the Choctaws would leave their home field one final time this season as winners, sending their seniors out with a hard-fought victory in front of the Tribe faithful.
