MEMPHIS — Dyer County golf is headed back to the state tournament — and the Choctaws will return as Region 8A champions. Dyer County turned in a team score of 286 to capture the Region 8A Championship in Memphis, finishing 17 strokes clear of runner-up Dyersburg and earning another trip to the TSSAA Class A State Tournament. The Choctaws finished comfortably atop the team standings, with Dyersburg second at 303 and Madison Academic third at 305. University High finished at 352, Lakeland Prep at 354 and Millington at 360. Along with the team championship, Dyer County's Jarrett Harrison captured the individual Region 8A championship, adding another title to an already successful postseason for the Choctaws. Harrison's championship came after a playoff, giving Dyer County both the team and individual titles. Beau Thurman carded a 73 as another key piece of Dyer County's championship round, while Jamison Rhodes, Grant Patterson and Miller Williams rounded out the Choctaws' Region 8A lineup. The victory continues a strong postseason run for Dyer County after the Choctaws also captured the District 15A Championship. More importantly, the Region title sends Dyer County back to familiar territory. The Choctaws will return to the TSSAA Class A State Tournament next week, one year after finishing as the Class A State Runner-Up. This time, Dyer County will make the trip as the Region 8A champion and with Harrison carrying an individual region championship into the state tournament. Region 8A Team Results: Dyer County 286; Dyersburg 303; Madison Academic 305; University High 352; Lakeland Prep 354; Millington 360.
