NEWBERN — On a night set aside to recognize the teachers who have made an impact on Dyer County volleyball players, the Choctaws gave the home crowd plenty more to celebrate. Dyer County continued its strong run through District 13AA, sweeping rival Dyersburg in straight sets Tuesday night, 25-12, 25-14 and 25-12, during the program's Pinned with Pride: Teacher Appreciation Night. Volleyball was the only Dyer County athletic event on Tuesday's schedule, and the Choctaws took center stage with one of their most convincing district performances of the season. Before the varsity match, Dyer County recognized teachers selected by members of the volleyball program as part of Pinned with Pride Night. Each player invited a teacher who has made a lasting impact on her life, giving the evening a special atmosphere before attention turned to the District 13AA matchup. Once play began, Dyer County wasted little time taking control. The Choctaws jumped on Dyersburg in the opening set and rolled to a 25-12 victory, establishing the tone for the night. Dyersburg offered more resistance in the second, but Dyer County remained in control and pulled away for a 25-14 win to take a commanding 2-0 advantage. There would be no fourth set. Dyer County closed the match exactly as it started, taking the third 25-12 to complete the sweep. Across the three sets, the Choctaws outscored Dyersburg 75-38, never allowing the Lady Trojans to reach 15 points in a set. Dyer County also received plenty of energy from the stands. The Choctaw baseball team turned out in strong support in the student section, helping create a lively home-court atmosphere as the volleyball team worked its way through the district sweep. At the service line, Dyer County finished with eight aces on 74 attempts. Ady B. Harrison and Evie Rogers led the Choctaws with three aces apiece, while Kate Benedetto added two. Bedo was perfect on seven service attempts, while Dyer County kept pressure on Dyersburg throughout the match with its serving and ability to string together points. The varsity victory completed a sweep of the evening for the Choctaws. Dyer County's junior varsity team opened the night with a 2-0 victory over Dyersburg, winning 25-17 and 25-14. The JV Choctaws recorded eight aces in the two-set win, led by Molly Davis with four. Kate Benedetto, Isabel Lack, Macy Seaton and Ava Prince each added an ace. With another District 13AA victory secured, Dyer County will have a quick turnaround before returning to its home floor. The Choctaws will host Westview on Thursday night as the regular season continues.
