JACKSON — Dyer County hit the road for Region 7-4A action Friday night, but an explosive Jackson North Side offense proved too much for the Choctaws as the Indians handed Dyer County a 50-14 loss. North Side scored 29 points in the opening half and finished with 332 yards of offense despite running the same number of offensive plays as Dyer County. The difference came on the ground, where North Side rushed for 169 yards on 20 attempts, an average of 8.4 yards per carry. Dyer County was held to 38 rushing yards on 28 attempts. North Side grabbed control early, putting nine points on the board in the opening quarter before adding two more touchdowns in the second to build a 22-0 advantage. Dyer County answered through the air. Quarterback Landen White connected with Grant West for a 15-yard touchdown, and Dillon Rogers added the extra point to cut the North Side advantage to 22-7. North Side responded with another touchdown before halftime, however, sending the Choctaws to the locker room trailing 29-7. North Side continued to add to its lead in the second half, scoring once in the third quarter and again in the fourth to stretch the margin to 43-7. The Choctaws continued to battle and put together another scoring drive in the fourth quarter. White finished that possession himself, scoring from one yard out, and Rogers' second extra point of the night made it 43-14. North Side answered immediately, returning the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to produce the final 50-14 margin. While Dyer County struggled to establish its running game, the Choctaws found success through the air. White turned in an efficient night passing, completing 10 of 14 attempts for 163 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Dyer County and North Side actually finished even in passing yardage with 163 yards apiece. West was White's leading target, hauling in four passes for 62 yards and a touchdown, including a 29-yard reception. Brock Stanley provided Dyer County's longest offensive play of the night with a 51-yard reception, while Korey Taylor caught three passes for 26 yards. Landon Kuykendoll added a 23-yard reception, and Jaxon Leigh had one catch. Taylor led the Choctaws on the ground with 27 yards on 13 carries, while Zay Bowen picked up 19 yards on three attempts. White was credited with the Choctaws' lone rushing touchdown. North Side's ability to produce big plays and sustain drives proved to be one of the differences in the game. The Indians averaged 7.9 yards per offensive play compared with Dyer County's 4.8 and finished with an 18-12 advantage in first downs. North Side also converted four of eight third downs and all three of its fourth-down attempts. Dyer County was 1-for-8 on third down but converted two of three fourth-down opportunities. Neither team committed a turnover. Defensively, Christen McPherson paced Dyer County with four tackles and was credited with half a tackle for loss. West recorded 3.5 tackles, while Ethan Sweatt finished with three and Jaiden Sebourn and Stetson Swift each recorded 2.5. Marc Taylor registered a full tackle for loss, while Bowen, Eli Pollock, McPherson and Channing Myers were each credited with half a tackle for loss. On special teams, Rogers was perfect on his two extra-point attempts. Bennett Black punted four times with a 28-yard average and placed one inside the 20. Bowen totaled 45 yards on three kickoff returns, while Will Trevathan had a 25-yard return and KeAnthony Barbee added a 19-yard return. The loss moves Dyer County to 2-2 on the season. The Choctaws now turn their attention back home, where one of the biggest weeks on the school calendar awaits. Dyer County will celebrate Homecoming Week 2026 before hosting South Gibson on Friday night in another Region 7-4A matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Newbern.
