NEWBERN, Tenn. — It was a packed Thursday for Dyer County Athletics, with Choctaw student-athletes competing in volleyball, soccer, football, golf and cross country. Seven different competitions filled the schedule, highlighted by a pair of volleyball sweeps, several close finishes and another strong individual performance on the cross country course. Volleyball Sweeps Milan Dyer County Volleyball continued its strong stretch with a pair of victories over Milan. The JV Choctaws swept the Bulldogs 2-0, while the varsity followed with a 3-0 sweep to complete a perfect night on the volleyball court. Soccer Falls Just Short Against Crockett County On the soccer field, Dyer County battled Crockett County in a tightly contested match before falling 2-1. The one-goal decision came during a season that has already featured plenty of offense and excitement for the Choctaws, including a 9-0 victory over Covington and an 8-7 comeback thriller against Mayfield, Kentucky. Freshman Football Edged by Milan Dyer County's freshman football team was involved in another of Thursday's close contests. The Choctaws battled Milan throughout the night before coming up just short, 21-18, with only three points separating the teams at the final whistle. JCS edged the Dyer County boys 147-149 in the close contest. On the girls' side, JCS defeated Dyer County 133-157.
