NEWBERN, Tenn. — Dyer County Volleyball returned to District 13-AA play Tuesday night and made quick work of South Gibson, with both the junior varsity and varsity squads earning straight-set victories at home. The varsity Lady Choctaws controlled the match from beginning to end, sweeping South Gibson 25-9, 25-8, 25-6 for a convincing 3-0 district victory. Dyer County allowed just 23 total points across the three sets. Serving played a major role in the win. Dyer County recorded nine aces on 73 service attempts while committing only four service errors. Kierstyn Ray and Molly Davis led the Lady Choctaws with three aces each. Ray was perfect from the service line with no errors on 16 attempts, while Davis recorded three aces on 19 attempts. Kate Benedeyto added two aces, and Evie Rogers contributed another. The Lady Choctaws set the tone immediately, racing through the opening set for a 25-9 win. They were even more dominant in the second, holding South Gibson to eight points, before closing the night with their strongest defensive set in a 25-6 victory. Dyer County's junior varsity team was equally impressive, sweeping South Gibson 25-11, 25-13. The JV Lady Choctaws were especially steady at the service line, finishing with five aces and no service errors on 49 attempts. Macy Seaton led the group with two aces, while A. Walden, L. Gibbons and A. Prince each added one. The wins continue Dyer County's strong run through the district schedule. After stepping outside district competition over the weekend at the Jackson High School Volleyball Tournament in Missouri, the Lady Choctaws returned home Tuesday and immediately picked up where they left off in District 13-AA play. There won't be much time between district matches. Dyer County will be back on its home floor Thursday night when the Lady Choctaws host Milan in another District 13-AA matchup.
