DYERSBURG, Tenn. — Dyer County turned in one of its strongest performances of the season Monday, capturing the West Tennessee Invitational championship at The Farms with a team score of 292. The Choctaws placed four golfers in the 70s or better and finished four strokes ahead of runner-up Jackson Christian, which posted a 296. Dyersburg finished third at 316, followed by USJ at 322, Union City at 332, Crockett County at 336, South Gibson at 365 and Jackson South Side at 368. Jarrett Harrison led the way for Dyer County with a 68, turning in the lowest score among the Choctaws' varsity lineup. Beau Thurmon was right behind him with a 69, giving Dyer County two rounds in the 60s. Jamison Rhodes added a 77 and Miller Williams shot a 78 to round out the four counting scores that produced Dyer County's 292. Jayden Hanna finished with an 88. The top of the individual leaderboard was extremely competitive. Jackson Christian's Casen Justice shot a 69, while teammate Carson Andreoni finished with a 71. Jackson South Side's Wyatt Guthrey posted a 75, USJ's Malcolm Scott shot 76, and Union City's Gavin McGuire finished with a 77. Dyer County's depth was especially evident in comparison with the rest of the field. Harrison and Thurmon gave the Choctaws two scores under 70, while Rhodes and Williams kept all four counting scores at 78 or lower. The invitational also included a JV boys competition, giving a large group of golfers an opportunity to compete in the event. Among the JV scores listed were rounds of 79 by Grady Patterson and Nate Vick, 81 by Parrish Crihfield, and 82s by Sam Thompson, Luke Henson, Cooper Scallions, Conner Cox and Brock Kirkpatrick. Huck Hollingsworth and Ryder Korn each shot 84, while several additional JV golfers competed throughout the day. On the girls side, South Gibson captured the team championship with a 147, led by Marleigh Chicantek's 71 and Sophie Ingle's 76. USJ finished second at 159. Jackson Christian posted a 186, followed by Dyersburg at 194, Crockett County at 195, Dyer County at 199, Ripley at 211, Union City at 214 and Covington at 215. Molly Roberts led Dyer County with a 98, while Halle Flagg shot a 101, combining for the Lady Choctaws' team score of 199. The JV girls competition was led by Brylee Doyle with an 81. Other JV scores included Avery Hickman at 114, Allie Ables at 117, Addisyn Trout and Emerson Peyton at 123, and Keegan Gaines at 126. Monday's tournament featured golfers from across West Tennessee and gave Dyer County another opportunity to see several of the area's programs in an 18-hole tournament setting. The Choctaws took advantage, putting together a balanced team performance and walking away from their home course with the West Tennessee Invitational championship. For Harrison and Thurmon, the day also continued a strong stretch of individual play. Harrison's 68 and Thurmon's 69 provided the foundation for a Dyer County lineup that separated itself from a competitive field and secured the tournament title.
