Volleyball Sweeps Lexington In Home Opener

Dyer County volleyball made the most of its first night on its home court Tuesday, picking up victories in both Junior Varsity and Varsity action against Lexington. The Varsity Choctaws earned their first win of the season in convincing fashion, sweeping Lexington in straight sets, 25-13, 25-17 and 25-13. After taking control with a 12-point victory in the opening set, Dyer County fought off Lexington in a more competitive second set before closing the night with another 25-13 win to complete the sweep. The Choctaws were aggressive from the service line, finishing the varsity match with 11 aces. Ady B. Harrison led Dyer County with four aces, while Kate Benedetto and Zoey Morris added two apiece. Katie Beth Caldwell, Kierstyn Ray and Evie Rogers each recorded one. The win was a quick response for Dyer County after opening the season Monday night on the road at Arlington. The Junior Varsity Choctaws also picked up their first victory of the season, sweeping Lexington 25-16 and 25-20. Dyer County's JV squad also recorded 11 aces in the match. Kate Benedetto led the way with four, Macy Seaton added three and Molly Davis finished with two. Lynlee Young and Ava Prince each added an ace as the Choctaws completed the two-set victory. With wins at both levels, Dyer County finished its home-opening night without dropping a set. The Choctaws will remain at home for their next matchup, as Dyer County hosts Trinity Christian Academy on Thursday.
