CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The most successful season in Dyer County Boys Tennis history came to a close on the biggest stage in Tennessee high school tennis, but not before the Choctaws left an unforgettable mark on the program. Senior twins Bo Dodds and Clay Dodds capped their remarkable careers by finishing as the TSSAA Class A Doubles State Runners-Up, becoming the highest-finishing doubles team in school history and leading Dyer County through a season that shattered expectations and rewrote the record books. The Dodds brothers entered the state tournament as Region 8 champions and quickly proved they belonged among Tennessee's elite. Their journey through the bracket was dominant from the start. In the quarterfinals, they rolled past Fairview's Luke Moultrie and Caden Thrower, 6-0, 6-0. Later that day, they advanced to the state championship match with an impressive 6-2, 6-1 semifinal victory over University School of Johnson City's Gavin Olson and Graham Mefford. Their run set up a championship showdown against Merrol Hyde's Declan Cleary and Lars Blomquist. Although the Dodds twins ultimately fell in the title match, their runner-up finish secured a place in Dyer County athletics history and capped one of the most successful tennis seasons ever produced by the school. The accomplishments of Bo and Clay extended far beyond individual success. This spring, the Dyer County Boys Tennis team accomplished something no previous Choctaw squad had ever achieved: qualification for the TSSAA State Team Tournament. The Choctaws became the first boys tennis team in school history to reach the state tournament, a milestone that elevated the entire program to new heights. For years, Dyer County tennis had steadily built toward this moment. Behind a veteran core led by the Dodds brothers, the Choctaws developed into one of the strongest programs in West Tennessee. Their combination of experience, consistency, and competitive toughness helped transform the program from a district contender into a state-level competitor. The twins were at the center of that transformation. Known for their chemistry, communication, and relentless competitiveness, Bo and Clay spent their high school careers establishing themselves as one of the premier doubles teams in Tennessee. Their state tournament run was the culmination of countless hours on the court and years of dedication to the program. While the championship trophy narrowly slipped away, the legacy they leave behind is secure. The Dodds brothers graduate having helped deliver the first state tournament appearance in program history, a Top-4 team finish at state, a Class A State Runner-Up finish in doubles, and a standard of excellence that future Choctaw tennis players will strive to match. For Dyer County Boys Tennis, 2026 will forever be remembered as the year history was made. And for Bo and Clay Dodds, it will be remembered as the season they helped build a legacy. By the Numbers First Boys Tennis team in Dyer County history to qualify for the TSSAA State Tournament. Region 8 Doubles Champions. TSSAA Class A Doubles State Runners-Up. Two state tournament victories to reach the Class A State Championship Match. One of the most successful seasons in Dyer County tennis history.
